Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is a central university established by an Act of Parliament of India in 1985 (Act No. 50 of 1985) to enable individuals to earn a living would & also make them capable citizens of India. Fate of a nation depends on the education of its youth. To fulfill that great ideal, IGNOU wanted and becomes the “ People’s University” of India.
Vidyasar College for Women associated her with this national mission of massive expansion of education by establishing a learners support centre of IGNOU at Vidyasagar Smriti Mandir, 36 , Vidyasagar Street, Kolkata -9 (House of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and second campus of Vidyasagar College For Women) since the year 2001.
Admission :
Admissions to IGNOU in different progrmmes are mentioned below take place through online every year both for January and July Session. For more information visit IGNOU website www.ignou.ac.in.
Activated Programmes :
Here in this study centre at present number of activated programmes are 25.Few job oriented non-conventional Bachelor and Master degree programmes in Social Work (BSW / MSW), Tourism study (BTS/MTM),Rural Development (MARD) are running. Nine(9) job oriented certificate courses are : 1)Certificate in Environmental Studies (CES), 2) Certificate in Disaster Management (CDM), 3) Certificate in Tourism Studies (CTS), 4) Certificate in Food & Nutrition (CFN), 5) Certificate in Nutrition & Child Care(CNCC), 6) Certificate in Human Rights (CHR),7) Certificate in Information Technology (CIT), 8) Certificate in HIV & Family Education (CAFÉ), 9) Certificate in Rural Development (CRD).Three (3) Diploma including one Post Graduate diploma courses are: 1) Diploma in Tourism Studies (DTS), 2)Diploma in Early Child Care & Education (DECE), 3) Diploma in HIV & Family Education (DAFE), 4) Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development (PGDRD).There is a Degree Course in BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications).Apart from these courses BA, B.Com, MA in Sociology, Political Sc & Hindi are also activated.
Counselors and Counselling Session :
There are 32 empanelled counselors, approved by IGNOU, HQ, New Delhi, interacting with the students to redeem its promise of providing higher education to all segments of society. Counselling session run only on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM according to counseling schedule. Counselling schedule (Routine) is displayed in the notice board on the first Saturday of every month for the whole month. Similarly for the other months except June and December. There is no counseling session arranged in the months of June and December for Term End Examination. Students are requested to come to the centre and go through the routine and attened the counseling session accordingly.

For Term End Examination June : On and from 1st March to 15th April
For Term End Examination December : On and from 1st September to 15th October
