About the Department

The Chemistry Department of Vidyasagar College for Women started on 1st June, 1960 with B.Sc Pass course and classes XI, XII. In the 1999 XI, XII courses were dropped from the college. Honours course in Chemistry started in the year 2000.

With the crown of Honours, the Department is running smoothly with the cumulative effort of all the full time and part time teachers and non teaching staff. The results of both Honours and General stream students are rewarding for the department. Students passed out from Chemistry department are well placed in different schools, colleges and other reputed jobs.

The department involve in organizing seminars : Organizing educational trips for students : Maintaining seminar library for students : Parent teachers meeting : Cultural activity : Farewell program and Felicitation of successful students, Teacher’s day celebration, Freshers welcome. The following facilities are available in the department. Two completely well equipped laboratories to conduct practical classes with instruments like: Digital balance, Research grade polarimeter, Colorimeter, Conductivity bridge, potentiometer,temperature controlled water bath, distillation set, hot plate, hromatography chamber and other instruments needed to cover the CU syllabus.


The department possesses a Seminar Library withal relevant text books and reference book.We have two desk topcomputers and one laptop equipped with printer, scanner.
