The faculty in a separate discipline was introduced from the very beginning i.e. from 1960. Distinguished teachers graced the faculty of Bengali from time to time. At present the department consisting of two associate professors and three assistant professors has five full time teachers. It will not be out of place to mention here that the department always consisted of five full-time teachers. For a few years in the past, one of the above mentioned five posts was vacant. No part-time teacher was taken. This had some adverse affect from academic point of view as the syllabus had to be completed within stimulated time even at the cost of shortage of teaching staff by taking extra classes.
