About Department

The Department of History was founded in 1961. This department offers Undergraduate course only under the University of Calcutta. Students mainly come from the lower - middle income group. So they are largely proficient in the regional language only. Currently there are 3 full time Asstt. Professor in the Department. The teacher – students relation is cordial. Teachers take every step to make recent research accessible to the students. The teachers are always available for consultation . The students are evaluated through group discussions, class performance, students seminars, College internal examination and ultimately University examination system. Some of the students of this Department have done well in post – college life. The Department organizes academic talks by inviting eminent scholars. A number of eminent teachers have taught in this Department e.g. Dr. Sumit Sarkar, the famous historian. We hope to carry this legacy forward.
